Take care of it
Aftercare
A new tattoo is an open wound. Follow these steps and it will heal clean and hold its detail for years.
First hours
Keep the wrap on for 2 to 4 hours, or as your artist advised. It protects the fresh tattoo while it settles.
Wash
Remove the wrap, wash gently with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel, never rub.
Moisturize
Apply a thin layer of a recommended healing balm 2 to 3 times a day. Less is more. The skin needs to breathe.
Healing
Expect light peeling and flaking over the first two weeks. Don’t pick or scratch. Let it fall on its own.
Avoid
No pools, saunas, baths or direct sun for 2 to 3 weeks. Keep the area out of friction and tight clothing.
Long term
Once healed, protect it with sunscreen. UV is the main reason tattoos fade, and a small habit keeps the work sharp.
